Japanese Food - Wakame -
Wakame
わかめ, 若布
Wakame Seaweed
Despite being listed as one of the worst globally invasive species, Wakame is one of the most popular items put on the table. It contains rich nutrients such as iodine, sodium, calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus, making it a healthy item with low calories. Its slightly sweet, silk-smooth texture makes a nice, refreshing Sunomono (vinegar) salad. The world of Miso Shiru expands with the addition of Wakame, combined with other ingredients such as potatoes, onions, and Abura Age, among others. Wakatake using Wakame and Takenoko is a popular spring Nimono item.
