ていねいな言い方とくだけた言い方 (Formal vs Informal) (2)

呼びかけ (Salutation)

あくまでも基本ですが、「Dear の後に敬称や肩書＋苗字」で構成されるものが改まった言い方になり、「Hi や Hello とファーストネーム」で構成されるのがくだけた言い方になります。

Formal

Dear Sir or Madam

Dear Mr. Jones

Dear Dr. Smith

Informal

Hi John

Hi everyone

Hello Betty

Dear Tom

添付ファイルに関連する表現

「添付ファイルをつけました」、または「添付ファイルが開けません」というときの表現です。フォーマルな言い方では、I am と短縮形を使わない形や please を使った表現がみられます。また、can you...? よりは could you...? と can の過去形 could を使ったほうがよりていねいになります。

Formal

I am attaching ... for your consideration.

I am sending you ... as an attachment.

Please see the ... attached.

Please find attached the file you requested.

I am afraid I cannot open the file you have sent me.

Could you send it again in ... format?

Informal

I'm attaching/sending you ...

Sorry, but I can't open it. Can you send it again in ... format?

冒頭の文章

「なぜ自分はこのメールを送っているか」ということを明らかにする最初の文章です。フォーマルな言い方では、I am writing... や regard、concerning などの単語を使っています。また、インフォーマルでは、近況などを伝えたりすることもありますが、フォーマルでは不要なことは書かずに、いきなり本題に入ります。

I am writing with regard to ...

Thank you for your e-mail regarding (concerning) ...

With reference to our conference on January 20, I would like to inform you of ...

Informal

依頼をする場合の表現

「～して欲しい」といったリクエストや問い合わせをするときの表現です。フォーマルな言い方では、please や possibly、助動詞の過去形 could や would などの単語がよく使われています。

Formal

Could you please let me know if you can ...?

I would appreciate your ...

Could you possibly ...?

I would also like to know if ...

Please could you let me know ...

Please notify me that ...

Informal

I was wondering if you could ...

Would you mind ***ing ...?

Do you think you could ... for me?

Can you ...?
