通達や連絡の表現
「～についてお知らせします」といった連絡や通達をするときの表現です。that... 節を伴う文章など構文的にもより複雑になるのがフォーマルスタイルです。I am afraid... という言い方もていねいなスタイルです。

申し出や提案の表現

苦情を言うときの表現
相手に対して不満を表すときの表現です。フォーマルでは、構文がより複雑になることでさらに婉曲的な言い方になっています。

I'm sorry to say that ...
I hope you won't mind me saying that ...
お詫びの表現
相手にお詫びを言うときの表現です。フォーマルでは、would like や please accept などの表現を使っています。また、I'm や won't のような短縮形もみられません。

We would like to apologize for any inconvenience caused.
Please accept our apologies for ...
We will make sure that this will not happen again in the future.
Informal
I'm sorry for the trouble I caused.

締めくくりの表現
「結び」 (Complimentary Close) の前に使う締めくくりの表現です。インフォーマルでは、Hope... といった主語 (I) を省略した言い方もよく見られます。

結び (Complimentary Close) の表現
「結び」 (Complimentary Close) の表現です。インフォーマルでは、いろんな言い方がありますが、フォーマルではそれほどバリエーションはありません。結びの後の名前は、インフォーマルは愛称やファーストネームでもかまいませんが、フォーマルの場合はフルネームを書きます。また、自分の名前に Mr.、Mrs. などをつける場合もあります（あえてつける必要はありません）。
