日本のことわざ・格言を英語で表現する





 Orig : 英語本来のことわざではなく、日本語のことわざを英語に翻訳した表現例です。

明日の百より今日の五十

 A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
  Orig  Take today's fifty instead of tomorrow's hundred.
明日のことはわからないから、たとえわずかでも、確実に今日手にできるもののほうがいいという意味。a bird in the hand は「確実なもの」を表わし、birds in the bush 「不確実なもの」を指しています。kill two birds with one stone などのように英語の慣用句にはよく「鳥」が登場します。
