日本のことわざ・格言を英語で表現する





 Orig : 英語本来のことわざではなく、日本語のことわざを英語に翻訳した表現例です。

えにかいたもち
絵に描いた餅

 pie in the sky
 castles in the air (sky)/castles in Spain
 If wishes were horses, then beggars would ride.
  Orig  a rice cake in a painting
「餅」が英語では「パイ」になっていますが、頭の中だけで考えたものは実際お腹がふくれないのは同じです。同様に「空中楼閣」 build castles in the air/sky あるいは in Spain とも言います。３番めの例は、「馬が欲しいと願うだけなら乞食でも馬に乗れる」（願うだけでは何も得られない）という意味。
