Azuki  あずき, 小豆

Japanese Red Beans or adzuki beans

One of the most important beans in Japan, because Japanese sweets cannot exist without this! Without Azuki, there's no Tsubu An or Koshi An, just because it’s the very ingredient of these types of An. Zenzai is another sweet winter treat for your sweet tooth and it, too, entirely depends on these tiny grains. And we shouldn’t forget Sekihan (Seki: red; Han: rice), an auspicious item to celebrate happy events! Its reddish hue reminds us of red, the colour of celebration in Japan, combined with white (the colour of rice, for example).
